Sacred SEEDs is a mentoring and empowerment program for girls ages 12-15, taught by Sheila Vogel, a professional educator with more than 30 years of teaching experience. Activities include: beginner level instruction in American Tribal Style belly dance, journaling exercises, talking circles, and guest speakers from local professional women. (Note: No previous dance experience is required.)
Sacred Movement’s SEEDs program will mentor adolescent young women, who live in a culture where media and society tells them too many confusing and negative things about their body image and abilities. Participants will be empowered to discover their strengths, explore goals (both short and long-term), and begin to accept and be accepted as emerging young women.
Sacred SEEDs is offered as both a summer camp and weekend workshop. We offer summer camp as a one-week session, from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., Monday through Friday. The six week workshop is offered on six consecutive Saturdays from 1:00-4:00 p.m.. Join our mailing list for updates on dates and times.
Students will learn through collaborative dance, journaling exercises, talking circles, and more…
Participants should wear comfortable clothing which allows movement. Participant may perform in a Student Salon for their guardians on the final day of the workshop, one hour after it has ended. For summer camp, the student salon will be Friday from 3:00-3:30 p.m. and for the weekend workshop it will be on Saturday from 5:00-5:30 p.m. at the studio.
Tuition for this program is $200, and includes a hip scarf, journal and water bottle. Pre-registration is required. A non-refundable deposit of 50% is required upon registration. Payment plans are available.
